My query is that my brother has retail garment shop and he sold one socks to a person. Then he sent him notice Under legal metroligy that there is no mandatory decalartion on the socks packet and two MRP one Rs.20/- and other Rs.40/-. So this is punishable offence and compounding fee is Rs.2500/- otherwise you have to face trial in court of law. Sir i wnat to know is this type garment retail item are covered under this act .

Shop Owner Faces Penalty for Violating Legal Metrology Act: Dual MRP Display on Socks Packaging A retail garment shop owner received a notice under the Legal Metrology Act for selling socks without mandatory declarations on the packaging and displaying two different MRPs, which is a punishable offense. The notice stated a compounding fee of Rs. 2,500 must be paid to avoid court trial. Responses clarified that under the Legal Metrology Act and packaging commodities rules, packaged items must have labels with specific details, including MRP. The shop owner was advised to pay the compounding fee and comply with the act's provisions to avoid legal consequences. (AI Summary)
