Clerical Error in CENVAT Return: Reverse Excess Credit, Notify Authorities, Pay Interest if Duty Paid Using Credit A user reported an error in a CENVAT return where a purchase bill was mistakenly recorded with an excess value of Rs. 16,839 in January 2012. During reconciliation for April, this mistake was identified. Two respondents advised reversing the excess CENVAT credit and notifying the relevant authorities about the clerical error, ensuring it is documented in the statutory return. If the credit was not used to pay duty, no interest is required; if it was used, applicable interest must be paid. (AI Summary)
