identifying registered firms under tax laws

Guest

Dear all,

Greetings from the Netherlands, I am a PhD student in economics. Currently, I am working on a project about tax registration in India and I want to estimate the fraction of firm who are registered under tax laws (sales tax, excises , or income tax) using national survey data. In the National Sample Survey data firms are just asked about the registration under the following:

  • municipal corporation, panchayat, local body
  • khadi and village industries commission
  • coir board
  • silk board
  • jute commissioner
  • state directorate of industries (including district industries centre)
  • development commissioner, handicrafts/  handlooms/  power-looms
  • section 85 of factories act

But, I am unable to link these items with tax registration. Specifically, I want to know for which of these items excise clearance or something similar is compulsory for registration?

Since you are an expert in this field, could you please help me to find a way for identification of registered firms?

 Thanks a lot,

PhD Student Researches Indian Firm Tax Registration; Faces Challenges Linking Data to Excise Clearance Requirements A PhD student from the Netherlands is researching tax registration of firms in India using national survey data. The data includes registration under various local and national bodies, but the student struggles to link these to tax registration requirements like excise clearance. A respondent advises that firms in India must register under various government and quasi-government agencies, such as VAT, CST, and the Company Act. The respondent notes that information is scattered across different sources and suggests a targeted search based on specific needs. (AI Summary)
