service tax registration

d.v. gupta

sir,

we have applied service tax online and got STC code   ending SD001. but some mistake enterd in addres while applied online. when contacted service tax department to deposit hard copy with required document, they refuse to receive application as address was wrong. the service tax department is asking to surrender the application  and apply stc again online. when we applied again got the service tax code ending SD002. kindly advise whether there is any way to get the stc code ending SD001.

System-generated registration numbers: STC codes tied to PAN generally cannot be changed; use the allocated code. An online service tax registration produced a Service Tax Code with an incorrect address; the department refused hard-copy acceptance and advised surrender and reapplication. STC numbers are system-generated and linked to the applicant's PAN, making alteration of an issued STC impracticable; practical advice was to continue using the allocated STC. (AI Summary)

These are system generated numbers which are generated in conjunction with your PAN no and it would apparently be difficult if not impossible to change them. Suggest you continue with the number alloted
