GST credit notes for post-sale discounts and invoice corrections raise questions about item-mode entries without quantity or rate.
GST credit note issuance is questioned for post-sale discounts and invoice correction. The issue is whether a credit note may be entered through item mode without specifying quantity and rate for GST-related purposes. No substantive determination on permissibility or applicable conditions is provided. (AI Summary)

Sir

Can i issue gst credit note in tally prime under item mode without enetring quantity and rate for post sale discount and correction in invoice under gst ....??

For post sale discount department Circular 251/08/2025-GST would have to be adhered to. For the procedural part, it is possible to generate a credit note in tally prime without mentioning the quantity and rate.

Your post sale discount will come under the revised Sec.15(3)(b) which is yet to be notified. Therefore, you will have to structure the credit note as the existing section which reads thus:

(b) after the supply has been effected, if-

(i) such discount is established in terms of an agreement entered into at or before the time of such supply and specifically linked to relevant invoices; and

(ii) input tax credit as is attributable to the discount on the basis of document issued by the supplier has been reversed by the recipient of the supply."

Please link the credit note to individual invoices and then issue a credit note. Quantity and rate need not be mentioned.
