Regular GSTIN to SEZ GSTIN

Rajendra Prasad

Dear Sir,

I am setting up a SEZ Unit. I do not get the approvals. Hence I have applied the registration as Regular Tax Payer. From the date of registration till date I did not do any transactions with Regular GSTIN.

Now I got SEZ Approval. Can I convert this regular GSTIN to SEZ GSTIN.

Or Am I required to apply afresh .

Please clarify.

Advice on Converting Regular GSTIN to SEZ GSTIN: Consider Registration Amendment or Fresh Registration if No Transactions An individual setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) unit sought advice on converting their regular Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) to an SEZ GSTIN after receiving SEZ approval. Initially registered as a regular taxpayer due to pending approvals, they had not conducted any transactions. The response advised checking if conversion could be done through an amendment of registration. If not, applying for a fresh registration was suggested as a simpler alternative, given the absence of any transactions under the current GSTIN. (AI Summary)

check if you can do it by way of amendment of registration. If not, you could apply for fresh registration (which would be a much simpler way out) as anyway no transactions have taken place.
