Foreign exchange payment methods vary by country under Regulation 3 with ACU requirements for specific nations
Regulation 3 of the Foreign Exchange Management (Manner of Receipt and Payment) Regulations, 2000 prescribes methods for authorized dealers to receive foreign exchange. For Asian Clearing Union member countries (Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Republic of Maldives), payments for current transactions must be through ACU dollar/euro accounts, with permitted currency for other cases. Nepal and Bhutan follow separate notification provisions. Iran requires permitted currency payments per Reserve Bank directions. All other countries allow rupee payments from non-ACU member banks or permitted currency. Export payments may be received in freely convertible currency appropriate to final destination, with third-party payments permitted under specified conditions.
