Power to appoint senior officers to hold enquiries and impose penalties under the Code on Wages.

Section 53 authorises the appropriate Government to appoint officers not below the rank of Under Secretary (or equivalent) to hold enquiries, in a manner prescribed by the Central Government, for imposing specified penalties under the Code on Wages. The appointed officer may summon witnesses, require documents, and, if satisfied an offence under the referenced provisions has occurred, impose penalties in accordance with those provisions.
