<h1>New FEMA 1999 notification revises 2015 rules on carrying Indian, Nepalese and Bhutanese currency for travelers</h1> The notification, issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, amends the 2015 Regulations on export and import of currency with effect from its publication in the Official Gazette. It replaces Regulation 8 to specify that persons who are not citizens of Pakistan or Bangladesh may take or send Indian currency to, and bring it from, Nepal or Bhutan, excluding notes above Rs.100, but permitting travellers to carry higher denominations up to Rs.25,000. It also permits taking out of India to, and bringing into India from, Nepal or Bhutan, the local currencies of those countries. Prior amendments to the Principal Regulations are listed by reference.
