<h1>India Amends Definition of 'Appropriate Authority' in BIS Act, 1986; New Roles Include Senior Officers, Effective Sept 2014.</h1> The Central Government of India has amended the notification No. S.O. 2953(E) from November 19, 2009, under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986. The amendment, effective from September 1, 2014, redefines 'Appropriate Authority' to include officers not below the rank of an Under Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion or the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, or a General Manager from a District Industries Centre, or an officer nominated by the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards. This change follows consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards.
