Summary: Recoveries such as notice pay and surety bond forfeitures, nominal canteen deductions where a third party vendor already charges GST, in house ID card reissuance charges, liquidated damages, forfeited earnest money/security deposits/bank guarantees, and amounts written off as unclaimed creditors are not treated as consideration for supply and are therefore outside the scope of GST under Schedule III and relevant CBIC guidance.

Summary: Tobacco products are subject to GST while excise duty and NCCD may also be levied; NCCD is a surcharge type duty distinct from basic excise and can be imposed independently, and an exemption of one category of duty does not automatically exempt other statutory levies unless expressly stated in the exemption notification.

Summary: The Reserve Bank's revised March 2022 framework establishes a lender-agnostic, activity-based regulation for microfinance focused on customer protection, harmonises household income eligibility while linking loan limits to repayment capacity, replaces rule-based pricing with standardized disclosure via a simplified fact sheet showing an all-inclusive effective interest rate, and strengthens board accountability, employee conduct, prohibitions on harsh recovery practices, due diligence for recovery agents and grievance redressal, while using asset-based thresholds and competition measures to contain arbitrage and reduce borrower costs.
Summary: Conference of Indian Trade Service officers emphasised specialisation in international trade, institutional memory, use of trade analytics, and revamping Foreign Trade Policy schemes for efficiency. Operational reforms include ten sector-specific ITS groups and state assignments to craft sector-wise and state-wise export strategies with industry collaboration. Delegates reviewed a proposed Global Trade Promotion Organization to centralise export-promotion functions and professionalise engagement in FTA negotiations and policy formulation.
