Summary: The Index of Eight Core Industries rose 12.7 per cent year on year in June 2022, driven by notable increases in Coal, Refinery Products, Cement and Electricity, while Crude Oil declined and Natural Gas recorded modest growth. The ICI, comprising eight sectoral indices that together account for 40.27 per cent of the IIP basket, showed provisional April-June 2022 23 quarter growth of 13.7 per cent; March 2022 growth was revised to 4.8 per cent. Summary: Diversifying the trade basket and promoting multisectoral trade is the central objective, emphasising expansion in pharmaceuticals, information technology, infrastructure, hospitality and tourism, agriculture, food processing, fintech and cybersecurity through joint production, investment, capacity building and targeted public private engagement to broaden bilateral commerce.
Summary: The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) uses RFID, IoT, Big Data and cloud technologies to provide real time tracking of EXIM container movement across ports, CFSs/ICDs, toll plazas, ICPs, SEZs and railway stations, consolidating national EXIM container data and supporting logistics performance and trade facilitation. The LDB has been leveraged to create the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), a single window, cross ministerial API based integration layer intended to break silos, improve interoperability and increase transparency and efficiency in the logistics sector.
Summary: FDI policy permits up to 100% foreign investment under the automatic route in most sectors and treats manufacturing as eligible whether by self-manufacturing or contract manufacturing, allowing sale via wholesale, retail and e-commerce without approval. Complementary monetary and regulatory measures-including CRR/SLR exemptions for incremental NRE/FCNR(B) deposits, temporary deposit interest flexibility, inclusion of specified G-Secs under a fully accessible route for investors, temporary ECB limit increases and broader permitted end-uses for foreign currency borrowings-have been implemented to enhance forex inflows and support higher FDI.
Summary: A coordinated search and seizure operation on two business groups uncovered documents and digital data showing receipt of unaccounted cash and maintenance of parallel books in the real estate group, and use of bogus sub contract expenses, inflated purchase vouchers, and routing of contract proceeds through sham sub contractors in the construction group. The searches revealed substantial unaccounted income and resulted in seizures of unaccounted cash and valuable jewellery; forensic examination of seized material is ongoing.
