<h1>Government Cuts Excise and Customs Duties to Boost Economy; Key Changes for Cars, Cement, and Textiles.</h1> The government has revised excise and customs duty rates to stimulate the economy and support the manufacturing sector. Central excise duties on non-petroleum products have been reduced by 4 percentage points, while specific changes were made for cars and cement. Cotton textiles now have no excise duty. Customs duty on naphtha for power generation is exempted until March 31, 2009. Export duties on iron ore fines are withdrawn, and reduced for lumps. Service tax refunds for exporters have been expanded, with increased thresholds for foreign commission agent services. These changes are effective immediately, as per recent notifications.
