Opposition alleges Rs 1,110 crore GST fraud, 1,000 fake registrations, seeks CBI probe and protection for victims
An opposition leader alleged a Rs 1,110 crore GST fraud in the state for 2024-25, claiming registrations were fraudulently obtained in citizens' names and transactions routed through perpetrators' accounts, causing an estimated Rs 200 crore loss to the exchequer. The leader said the government only cancelled registrations after intelligence warnings, failed to inform victims, and neglected further investigation, with over 1,000 fake registrations purportedly still active. He urged a Central Bureau of Investigation probe given alleged inter-state and IGST links, demanded action against responsible state GST officials, and sought legal protection for those victimised by the fraud.
