Prime Minister defends next-generation GST reforms, says rate cuts deliver Rs 2.5 lakh crore savings and relief for households, MSMEs
The prime minister accused the opposition of misleading the public about recent GST rate cuts and defended newly implemented 'next-generation' GST reforms said to simplify registration, reduce disputes and speed refunds for MSMEs. He contrasted the current regime with prior governments, alleging past 'tax loot' and claiming significant tax reductions since 2014 that will save citizens about Rs 2.5 lakh crore this year. Using examples-from toothpaste and clothing to tractors, three-wheelers and two-wheelers-he asserted taxes on many essentials and vehicles have fallen substantially, delivering direct savings to low-income, neo-middle and middle-class households.
