Government Uses Space Tech for Digital Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Rural Development Programs
The government is utilizing space-based technology to support multiple flagship programs, including digital infrastructure, urban development, agriculture forecasting, and rural employment schemes. Satellite data and geospatial tools are employed for initiatives such as Digital India, Smart Cities Mission, AMRUT, FASAL, CHAMAN, MGNREGA, PMKSY-WDC, PMGSY, PMFBY, PMAY-HFA, and PM GatiShakti. These technologies assist in tasks like crop production forecasting, asset monitoring, watershed development, rural road construction, and insurance claim facilitation. The Department of Space plans to establish a Global Space Institute to provide multidisciplinary education on space technologies and promote space entrepreneurship, commercialization, and private investment. This institute aims to collaborate with academic, industrial, and governmental entities to advance space technology education and foster a global knowledge network.
