State targets 1 million metric tonnes green hydrogen capacity by 2030 under National Mission
A state minister announced the region's ambitious target to achieve 1 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen capacity by 2030, representing 20 percent of the nation's production goal. This initiative aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission approved in January 2023, which allocated Rs 19,744 crore toward producing 5 MMT annually by 2030. Major projects include a green hydrogen hub capable of producing 1,500 tonnes daily, with total state investments expected to reach Rs 1.85 lakh crore. The minister acknowledged significant challenges including cost competitiveness, with green hydrogen currently costing USD 3-6 per kg compared to USD 1-2 for grey hydrogen, water scarcity requiring 9 liters per kg of production, and infrastructure gaps. Despite these hurdles, the state is implementing supportive policies including tax breaks, subsidies, and the draft Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 to attract investors and accelerate adoption.
