Satellite Broadband Providers Face 4% Revenue Charge and Rs 500 Per Urban Subscriber Under New Spectrum Guidelines
Telecom regulator TRAI recommended satellite communication companies pay 4% of adjusted gross revenue as spectrum charges. Operators offering urban satellite broadband internet must pay an additional Rs 500 per subscriber annually. No rural area levy applies. The recommendation covers both non-geostationary and geostationary satellite services. Spectrum will be allotted for five years with possible two-year extension. The Department of Telecommunications will process these recommendations before seeking cabinet approval, after which satellite companies can apply for licenses.
