Franchisee Faces Penalty for Unfiled Service Tax Returns; Seeks Advice on Closure Confirmation and Meeting with Officials An individual closed their franchise business in 2005 and lost the service tax license copy. They recently received a letter from central excise regarding unfiled half-yearly online returns for 2011-12. The individual only has a letter confirming the business closure and seeks advice on how to proceed. One response suggests a potential penalty of 40,000 INR per year for not filing a nil service tax return, while another advises discussing the issue with the jurisdictional Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner to demonstrate good faith.
