Manufacturing unit's service tax input credit challenged; dispute over billing address per Service Tax Rules, 1994. A manufacturing unit in Suryapet, with a liaison office in Hyderabad, faced an issue during an EA 2000 audit regarding service tax input credit. The audit officer questioned the credit taken for invoices addressed to the liaison office. One respondent agreed with the audit team's stance, citing Service Tax Rules, 1994, suggesting invoices should be addressed to the manufacturing unit. Another respondent argued that credit is permissible if services are used by the manufacturing unit, regardless of billing address, and recommended registering the city office as an input service distributor for future compliance.
