Discussion on Excise Duty Reversal Post-Fire Accident: Importance of Documentation and Proving Unavoidable Circumstances Under Legal Scrutiny. A fire accident at a manufacturing plant raised questions about reversing excise duty on raw materials and goods. Participants in the forum discussed the necessity of reversing such duties and the lack of a specific time limit for doing so. It was advised to file an application for remission of duty, supported by proper documentation. Additionally, it was suggested to check insurance and FIR details to ensure the fire was classified as an accident. A referenced legal case highlighted the importance of proving the fire was unavoidable to claim remission of duty, emphasizing the need for careful documentation and compliance with legal procedures.
