Incorrect Premises Code in Service Tax Return: Resubmit to Avoid Rs. 20,000 Penalty; Verify Submissions Carefully. A user inquired about a rejected service tax return due to an incorrect premises code input, seeking guidance on how to address the issue. Respondents advised that since the return is treated as not filed, a new return should be submitted, potentially incurring a penalty of Rs. 20,000. Suggestions included communicating with the tax department to explain the error as minor and unintentional, and to request consideration of the original submission. The discussion highlighted the importance of verifying submissions and the challenges faced during the July-September 2012 period due to departmental server issues. (AI Summary)
