The amendment inserts a new sub clause permitting persons who, in the opinion of the President, are a distinguished jurist to be eligible under Article 217 and adds "or" to accommodate that sub clause. It substitutes the Explanation phrase "has held judicial office" with "has held judicial office or the office of a member of a tribunal or any post, under the Union or a State, requiring special knowledge of law," broadening qualifying prior service for appointment.
