Importers Must Ensure Data Accuracy or Face Penalties; Rules of Origin Take Precedence in Conflicts
If an importer fails to provide necessary information or demonstrates negligence in ensuring the accuracy of submitted data, customs officers will verify all future import entries claiming preferential duty rates to prevent trade agreement misuse. This verification ceases once the importer shows compliance with record-based controls. Importers found to have suppressed facts, made false statements, or colluded for undue trade benefits will have their preferential duty claims denied and face penalties. In case of conflict, the Rules of Origin take precedence. The Central Government may relax these rules for specific groups through official notification.
