India Updates Export Rules for Wild Plants: Restrictions on 29 Species, Cultivated Varieties Require Certification
The Government of India has amended the export regulations for certain wild plants, plant portions, and their derivatives under the ITC(HS) classifications of Export and Import Items 1997-2002. The export of 29 specified wild plant species and their derivatives is prohibited, except for formulations where plant portions are unrecognizable and inseparable. Cultivated varieties of these plants can be exported with a Certificate of Cultivation and a CITES permit where applicable. Value-added formulations made from imported plant species are freely exportable with an affidavit. Exports are restricted to specific ports, and compliance is mandatory under the Foreign Trade Act.
