India Updates Onion Export Rules: STEs Allowed Quotas, Reduced NOC Fees, and Quality Standards Under Foreign Trade Policy
The Government of India has amended the conditions for onion exports under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2002-2007. State Trading Enterprises (STEs), including NAFED, are permitted to export onions under quotas set by the Director General of Foreign Trade. The service charge for issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Associate shippers is reduced to a maximum of 2%, and further to 1% from April 1, 2003. Exports are subject to a Minimum Export Price, and quality must be maintained. STEs must report weekly on permits and periodically on shipments. These conditions also apply to previously released quotas.
