<h1>Govt Directive: Sections 255-257 of Companies Act 1956 Exempt for Fully Govt-Owned Companies</h1> In accordance with the powers granted by section 620(1)(a) of the Companies Act, 1956, the Central Government has issued a directive under notification GSR 234, dated January 31, 1978. This directive states that sections 255, 256, and 257 of the Companies Act, which relate to the appointment and retirement of directors, do not apply to government companies where the entire paid-up share capital is held by the Central Government, any State Government, or jointly by the Central and one or more State Governments.
