Government Amends Import Policy: NAFED and STCL Exempt from Special Import Licence for Spice Imports
The Central Government has amended the Import and Export Policy for 1997-2002 under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992. This modification pertains to the import of cassia, cinnamon, cloves, and tejpat. Typically, these imports require a Special Import Licence (SIL), with the c.i.f. value of the surrendered SIL being five times the c.i.f. value of the imported goods. However, the National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and Spices Trading Corporation Limited (STCL) are exempt from surrendering SIL for such imports. This amendment is issued in the public interest.
