Government Exempts Certain Imported Media Equipment from Customs Duties Under Customs Act, 1962 for Accredited Foreign Entities
The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempts certain imported equipment from excess customs duty and additional duty. This applies to goods imported by accredited correspondents of foreign broadcasting, television organizations, news agencies, or newspapers, provided the equipment is supplied free of cost and remains owned by the foreign entity. Conditions include official use, import of only one unit per item, and no prior exemptions claimed. The importer must provide a certificate from a Press Information Bureau officer and an undertaking to retain possession without transferring ownership. The exemption is valid until December 31, 1990.
