of <h1>India Exempts Certain Leather Industry Imports from Specific Duties; 40% Customs Duty Applies Under Customs Tariff Act, 1975</h1> The Central Government of India has issued a notification exempting certain imported goods used in the leather industry from specific customs duties. Under this exemption, goods listed in the notification are subject to a reduced customs duty of 40% ad valorem and are exempt from additional duties under Section 3 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. To qualify, importers must present a valid registration-cum-membership certificate from the Council for Leather Exports, prove they are industrial users, and commit to using the goods for their intended purpose.
