of <h1>Amended Notification No. 256/87-Cus: Direct Imports by Gem Units, Gold Exemption for MMTC and SBI Supplies</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 256/87-Cus. regarding imports by gem and jewellery units. The amendment changes the wording in paragraph 1 to specify that imports are directly by the gem and jewellery units. Additionally, a new paragraph 2 is added, extending exemptions to gold under Heading No. 71.08 imported by the Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation of India Limited and the State Bank of India for supply to gem and jewellery units within the Export Processing Zone and Export Oriented Complex. The exemption applies if specified procedures and conditions are followed by the jewellery units.
