Government Amends Customs Notification for Textile Imports: Positive Value Addition Now Acceptable for Chapters 50-63
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 32/97-Customs, dated April 1, 1997, under the Customs Act, 1962. The amendment, effective from January 1, 1999, modifies conditions related to import for execution of an export order for jobbing. Specifically, it adds a proviso to condition (iv) stating that for textile and clothing goods under chapters 50 to 63 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, any positive value of value addition is acceptable. Additionally, in the Explanations, the term 'semi-finished goods' is included alongside 'components, intermediates, consumables, parts.'
