<h1>Amendment to Notification No. 23/96-Cus. Updates Exchange Rates for Stamp Duty and Customs Act Calculations Effective June 1, 1996</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 23/96-Cus. (N.T.) regarding exchange rates for imported goods. Effective June 1, 1996, the amendment prescribes exchange rates for calculating stamp duty under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, and for purposes related to imported goods under the Customs Act, 1962. The exchange rates for various foreign currencies against the Indian rupee are specified in two schedules. Schedule I lists rates for one unit of foreign currency, while Schedule II lists rates for 100 units. The currencies include the Austrian Schilling, U.S. Dollar, Pound Sterling, and Japanese Yen, among others.
