Import of High-Value Vehicles Eased: New Rules for Petrol and Diesel Engines Over 3000cc and 2500cc, Respectively.
The Central Government has amended Import Licensing Note (7) of Chapter 87 under the Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09. The amendment allows the import of new vehicles with an FOB value of $40,000 or more and engine capacities exceeding 3000cc for petrol and 2500cc for diesel, exempting them from certain conditions. This applies to individuals, companies, firms, and OEMs with a manufacturing and service network in India. Importers must provide a Type Approval Certificate from an internationally accredited agency or an EC Type Approval Certificate from an EU member state, including a notarized English translation, during Customs clearance. This amendment is issued in public interest.
