Summary: The exemption for upfront concession fees under Notification No.12/2017 requires four conditions: upfront payment, lease of thirty years or more, use for industrial or financial infrastructure in a formally declared industrial/financial business area, and grant by a qualifying government-owned entity. While the fee and lease duration and grantor status met three conditions, lack of a formal declaration that the land is an industrial or financial business area prevents application of the exemption, bringing the upfront concession fee within the GST charging framework as consideration for a long-term lease/continuous supply.

Summary: Cabinet-approved NPS reforms increase the Central Government's mandatory employer contribution for NPS Tier I, permit choice of pension funds and investment pattern, provide compensation for non-deposit or delayed contributions in 2004-2012, expand lump-sum withdrawal tax exemption to make full exit withdrawal tax-exempt, and extend Tier II contributions a tax-deduction benefit subject to a lock-in; implementation is immediate with recurring fiscal impact and benefit to approximately 1.8 million central government employees.
Summary: DRI operations in Lucknow, Kolkata and Siliguri led to seizure of 66 kg of foreign-origin gold, arrest of four persons and seizure of four cars. Gold was concealed in specially built cavities and dashboard boxes; follow-up action recovered cash suspected as proceeds. Actions were taken under the provisions of the Customs Act. The seizures form part of broader enforcement activity in 2018-19, with substantial year-on-year increases in gold seizures and identification of land-border smuggling routes from neighbouring countries.
Summary: Direct Tax Collections for F.Y. 2018 19 up to November report higher gross collections and larger refunds than the prior year, yielding increased net collections that constitute a defined share of the Budget Estimates. Corporate Income Tax and Personal Income Tax both show positive gross and net growth after refund adjustments, with prior year figures adjusted to exclude one time receipts from the Income Declaration Scheme, 2016, for accurate comparison.
