Summary: States introduced temporary COVID related taxation and operational restrictions that, together with supply chain and demand shocks, depressed revenues and margins across the alco beverage sector. Most state excise regimes still prohibit online sale and home delivery, but limited pilot permissions point to a regulatory opportunity: if states amend excise rules to permit e commerce and home delivery, distribution channels and market dynamics could be materially reshaped.

Summary: GST treats transfer of business as a supply and deeming provisions make transfers without consideration and closure or surrender of registration taxable, causing closing stock and assets to be chargeable. An exemption for transfer as a going concern means such transfers are not subject to GST, and related provisions permit transfer of input tax credit and liabilities to the transferee. If a taxable person dies, transfer or continuation as a going concern avoids GST, while closure by heirs attracts GST on closing stock and assets.

Summary: DPIIT-recognized startups reported cumulative job creation of 527,517 for 2018 through mid-2021, with annual reported tallies increasing from 2018 into 2020 and a partial 2021 figure recorded as of 21 July 2021; the figures were disclosed in response to a parliamentary question and published as official aggregate employment statistics.
Summary: The consolidated monthly accounts up to June 2021 set out central Total Receipts-composed of tax revenue (net), non tax revenue, and non debt capital receipts (loan recoveries and disinvestment)-and quantify transfers to states as devolution of tax share. Summary: Search operations uncovered a nationwide network of shell companies and related money laundering through bogus advances, loans and share premia; many entities were fronted by dummy directors, with digital and paper evidence and secreted documents under forensic analysis, and multiple bogus bank accounts and cash and gold recoveries identified while investigations continue.
Summary: Taxpayers with new GST registration must update bank account details on the GST portal within the prescribed period after first login; the portal now checks update status and will prompt and force compliance. The update is made via the Non-core amendment workflow under Services Registration Amendment of Registration Non-Core Fields Bank Accounts, requiring account number, IFSC, account type and address, verification by an authorized signatory, and signing by DSC, e-sign or EVC. Successful updates produce an on-screen message and electronic acknowledgment to the registered email and mobile.
Summary: Coordinated searches uncovered systemic tax evasion by a construction and real estate group involving outside-the-books cash receipts, routing of funds into business through bogus share capital and unsecured loans from multiple shell companies, use of dummy directors and front companies, seizure of incriminating documents and cash, and undervaluation and fraudulent registration of large land parcels including forest land.
