<h1>January inflation data to use new CPI 2024 base, expanded basket and e-commerce price collection from February release.</h1> Introduction of a revised CPI series with base year 2024 expands the CPI basket to 358 weighted items and increases market coverage, incorporating online/e-commerce prices, airfare (including international routes) and streaming subscription rates; effect: inflation data will reflect broader consumption patterns and be released from February 12, 2026, with back series from January 2013. Adoption of COICOP 2018 up to subclass level, use of HCES 2023-24 for weights, enhanced price collection technology, house rent index refinements, and methodological changes (standard jewellery pricing, exclusion of employer-provided accommodation, electricity slab capture) aim to improve index robustness and data quality.
