Ammunition and precision munitions procurement reforms boost competition, multiple sourcing, and 90% indigenised domestic supply resilience
Procurement policy reforms for ammunition and precision munitions have been restructured to promote competition and enable multiple sourcing options, resulting in over 90% of approximately 200 ammunition variants being indigenised and procured through domestic routes; this increases supply resilience by reducing reliance on overseas sourcing and by supporting many variants through multiple domestic vendors. Indigenisation implementation has been operationalised through a dedicated 'Make in India' order basket and placement of substantial supply orders on indigenous manufacturers; this shifts procurement volumes to domestic industry and strengthens long-term logistics assurance. The next phase prioritises strengthening domestic raw material supply chains, modernising manufacturing infrastructure, accelerating technology transfers, and enforcing rigorous quality standards; this is intended to consolidate indigenisation gains and sustain operational readiness during prolonged contingencies.
