Centre clears Rs 136-crore luxury airport hotel with strict green norms on waste, water, trees and energy
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted environmental clearance for a Rs 136-crore, five-storey luxury hotel within Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, to be developed by the private airport concessionaire under a long-term agreement with the Airports Authority of India. The Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) approved the project after noting it is not in an eco-sensitive or forest area and faces no pending litigation. Conditions include on-site sewage treatment with water recycling, solid-waste processing through approved systems, transplantation of approximately 40 trees within the airport, green-belt development, and energy-efficiency measures. Clearance was issued centrally due to the temporary absence of Kerala's State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.
