Fake central bank officials loot Rs 7.11 crore ATM cash van, booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita robbery sections
Unidentified suspects impersonating central bank officials allegedly intercepted a contracted ATM cash van in Bengaluru and robbed approximately Rs 7.11 crore in daylight. The suspects used a vehicle bearing a Government of India sticker, claimed to verify documents, forcibly moved the van staff and cash, then allegedly intimidated the driver at gunpoint and transferred the money to their vehicle before fleeing. A complaint by the cash management company led to registration of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for armed robbery, criminal intimidation, and impersonation of public officials. Police have formed multiple teams, imposed citywide roadblocks, are reviewing extensive CCTV footage, and report 'important leads,' while political opposition criticizes the government over law-and-order concerns.
