Centre to lead inland port linking state to seaport via 262 km waterway, boosting cargo movement and 50,000 jobs
A new inland port will be developed in a Rajasthan district to connect the state to the Arabian Sea via a Gujarat port along a 262-kilometre waterway, requiring dredging costs in excess of Rs 10,000 crore. The Centre will lead development with state support; a national technical institute has submitted a draft DPR now under state review, after which a final DPR will be prepared. The state will provide about 14 km of land. The project, linked to an existing national waterway, is expected to improve cargo movement, ease road and rail congestion, support nearby refinery and local industries, spur warehouses and cold storage, be state-operated on completion, and could create over 50,000 jobs.
