State signs MoU to develop two national waterways for coal and bulk cargo with Rs 12,200 crore investment
A state government signed a memorandum to develop and operate two designated national waterways, creating a project backed by an estimated Rs 12,200 crore investment to move coal and other bulk cargo from inland coalfields to nearby ports via inland waterways. The initiative aims to lower logistics costs, decongest road and rail networks, and promote environmentally friendlier freight movement. Implementation will be through a special purpose vehicle; the national inland waterways authority will lead project proposal preparation, statutory clearances, and development of terminals, barrages and navigation systems.
