EU sanctions spur Russian domestic production, boost Russia-India trade and open export opportunities for Indian firms
The EU's 19th sanctions package targeting energy, finance and military-related goods has, according to a Moscow-based Indian business group, spurred Russian domestic production and expanded partnerships with India, creating opportunities for Indian exporters of pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, consumer products and food; bilateral trade reportedly hit a record US$68.7 billion. The group says it is facilitating logistics and commercial ties to meet demand created by Western departures. Separately, the US has imposed sanctions on major Russian oil producers and levied additional tariffs on Indian imports tied to Russian oil purchases, while India continued talks with the EU on a proposed FTA.
