Panel declines contempt over shoe incident, plans preventive guidelines, asks AGR reconsideration, backs CBI probes into digital arrests
The Supreme Court declined contempt proceedings against a lawyer who attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice, but signalled it will frame preventive guidelines to curb such incidents. The court permitted the government to reconsider and reconcile a telecom company's disputed adjusted gross revenue liability for 2016-17, treating the issue as a policy matter. The bench expressed inclination to entrust the CBI with probes into 'digital arrest' cases and sought FIR details from states and UTs. It also refused a police request for extra time to file responses to bail applications in a 2020 riots-related UAPA case, and the Chief Justice recommended a successor.
