National authority seeks CBI response to bail plea by ex-housing finance promoter accused in ?34,926 crore bank fraud
The Supreme Court has issued notice to the CBI on a bail application filed by a former housing-finance promoter accused in an alleged Rs 34,926 crore bank fraud, seeking the agency's response. The Delhi High Court earlier denied bail, citing the applicant's questionable conduct in custody, alleged manipulation of assets and transactions while detained, and the risk of witness influence or evidence tampering. The CBI alleges the promoter masterminded diversion of funds via around 87 shell companies and fictitious retail loans to over 2.6 lakh customers; previous statutory bail was granted and later cancelled by the Supreme Court.
