Ruling alliance to contest assembly under partner leader; chief minister choice left to elected legislators after vote
A senior central leader said the ruling alliance will contest the state assembly elections under the leadership of the state chief of a key partner, and that the choice of chief minister will be made by elected legislators after voting. The alliance's seat-sharing pact allocates 101 seats each to the two principal partners, 29 to a third party and six each to two smaller partners. The leader defended a special revision of electoral rolls, dismissed an opposition employment pledge as fiscally infeasible, and pledged identification, removal from rolls and deportation of alleged illegal immigrants.
