National carpet expo nets Rs 200-240 crore orders, down from Rs 500 crore amid lower participation, tariffs and conflicts
A four-day carpet expo organised by the national export promotion council under the union textiles ministry concluded with export orders worth Rs 200-240 crore, down from Rs 500 crore at the previous edition. The event hosted about 215 overseas importers from 42 countries and 200 foreign buyer representatives, with roughly 150 domestic exporters exhibiting. Organisers attributed the decline to reduced participation-about 100 fewer stalls and 125 fewer buyers-citing US tariffs and conflict-related global trade disruptions that affected logistics and shipments. A recent UK free trade agreement drew additional buyers from the UK and Australia; national carpet exports totalled Rs 17,741.61 crore in 2024-25.
