Debtor drops bid to annul bankruptcy order, trustee can continue asset investigations to satisfy £1.05bn judgment
A high-profile debtor has discontinued an application to annul a UK bankruptcy order, allowing the Trustee in Bankruptcy to continue investigating and realising assets to satisfy an estimated £1.05 billion judgment owed to a consortium of banks led by a state bank. A planned High Court directions hearing was vacated after the notice of discontinuance; the earlier ruling upholding the 2021 bankruptcy order therefore remains effective. The bankruptcy stems from registration in England of an overseas debt recovery tribunal judgment based on a personal guarantee for loans to a defunct airline; a fresh annulment challenge may be possible pending related proceedings abroad.
