Lawyer and brother granted bail in PMLA case after serving minimum detention and maximum term under Section 4
A special court granted bail to a Nagpur-based lawyer and his brother in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act case, finding they had already served the minimum detention prescribed and the maximum imprisonment period under Section 4. The pair, arrested March 31, 2022, faced Enforcement Directorate allegations of conspiring to grab land using forged documents and generating proceeds of crime of Rs 36.60 crore. The court noted the predicate offence remains pending in Nagpur and before the High Court, making expeditious resolution difficult, and concluded there was no substantial reason to deny bail.
