EU-India free trade and investment talks aim to boost trade and diversify supply chains despite unresolved market access issues
An EU envoy said a proposed free trade agreement and investment protection pact between the EU and India could significantly boost bilateral trade and investment, but negotiations remain challenging with key issues unresolved ahead of the next negotiating round in Brussels. Talks have completed 11 chapters including customs, digital trade, dispute settlement and subsidies, while critical chapters such as rules of origin and market access are still open. The envoy urged continued engagement to finalise a meaningful, mutually beneficial package by the stated year-end target, framing the deals as tools to diversify trade and strengthen supply chains.
